Welcome to Los Altos Hacks! We're extremely excited to have you all here.  Hacking starts at 12PM on Saturday, and all submissions to Devpost must be in by 10am on Sunday. We hope you'll learn a lot from this experience and build something you're proud of.

Eligibility

Teams can be maximum 4 people, and everyone must be a high schooler & present at the hackathon to participate. You must also have your parent packet signed.  A copy is available at http://bit.ly/LosAltosHacksParentPacket.

Grand Prize

Winning team will receive 1st place medals and Dell Venue 10 5000 Tablets for each member of the team.

Second Place

Winning team will receive 2nd place medals and GitHub octocat figurines for each member of the team.

Best Use of Microsoft Technologies

Presented by Microsoft. Winning team will receive one Microsoft Band V2 for each member.

Best Social Good Hack

Presented by KPCB Fellows. Winners receive automatic finalist status for the 2016 KPCB Fellows Program.

Presented by MLH. Winning team will receive 1 TB hard drive for each member.

Presented by MLH. The winning team will receive swag bags containing Sparkfun Redboards for each member of the team.

Judging Criteria

  • Originality
    Is the hack more than just another generic social/mobile/local app? Does it do something entirely novel, or at least take a fresh approach to an old problem?
  • Technical Difficulty
    Is the hack technically interesting or difficult? Is it just some lipstick on an API, or were there real technical challenges to surmount?
  • Polish
    Is the hack usable in its current state? Is the user experience smooth? Does everything appear to work? Is it well designed?
  • Usefulness
    Is the hack practical? Is it something people would actually use? Does it fulfill a real need people have?
